John Garman Hertzler was born on March 18, 1949 in Savannah, GA. With his father serving in the Air Force, the family had to move many a time. Among other places, Hertzler lived in Texas, Casablanca, Omaha and Maryland. Before devoting himself to the theater, John was a very successful football player for several years; playing left defensive end for Bucknell University.
John portrayed the Klingon General Martok in numerous epsiodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In the Star Trek: Voyager episode, “Tsunkatse,” he played a Hirogen hunter battling Seven of Nine in some kind of wrestling arena. Hertzler also appeared in other Deep Space Nine episodes as a Vulcan captain and the character named Roy Rittenhouse in “Far Beyond the Stars.”
A few of J.G.´s other guest appearances on TV shows include Roswell, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Six Feet Under.
